
Five small businesses and one ORNL staff member were recognized during the ORNL FY24 Small Business of the Year Awards, held Thursday, June 5, at the ORNL Conference Center.
Hosted by the Small Business Programs Office in the Contracts Division, the annual awards celebrate the capabilities and contributions of small business subcontractors — as well as one internal advocate — who supported the lab’s mission during fiscal year 2024.
Winners were nominated by ORNL staff for their outstanding performance across several areas of the lab, including information technology, engineering, staffing, and laboratory equipment and supplies.
IT Lab Partners, LLC (ITLP), a service-disabled veteran-owned small business joint venture headquartered in Oak Ridge, was named FY24 Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year for providing outstanding staffing support to the IT Services Directorate. ITLP played a key role in establishing and expanding a full-service user experience practice.
Swagelok North Carolina East Tennessee, a small business with a local office in Knoxville, was recognized as a FY24 Small Business of the Year for superior customer service, clear communication, and high satisfaction marks from end users as a catalog supplier of fluid system solutions.
Marshallton Research Laboratories, a woman-owned small business located in King, North Carolina, was named FY24 Women-Owned Small Business of the Year for consistent reliability and high-quality custom synthesis of compounds and resins used in radioisotope production.
Industrial Electronics, a Knoxville-based small business, was honored as a FY24 Small Business of the Year for reliable and efficient service in sourcing items essential to the Spallation Neutron Source and other ORNL projects.
A&W Supply, also headquartered in Knoxville, received FY24 Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year recognition for exceptional customer service, strong communication, and excellent performance as a catalog supplier.
Tawan McCoy, an ORNL procurement officer, was named ORNL Small Business Advocate of the Year for her consistent support of small business engagement in procurement, including work with the staff augmentation Basic Ordering Agreement.
In FY24, small businesses received more than half of ORNL’s total subcontracting dollars — contributing to innovation, agility, and economic growth in the region and beyond.
