UT-Battelle is requesting an Expression of Interest for construction of a new section of accelerator tunnel at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) located within the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN. The Ring to Target Beam Transport (RTBT) Stub Construction Project is part of the Proton Power Upgrade (PPU) that is increasing the capability of the current SNS accelerator and supports the Second Target Station, which is underway and includes conventional facilities construction with an estimated cost in excess of $500M. The PPU project is funded as a U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science Line-Item project.
The Construction Services solicitation is scheduled for spring 2022 with an award expected in late-summer 2022, with a contract duration of about 15 months. The majority of the construction will be required to be performed during a 180-day period as part of an SNS maintenance outage starting February 2023. Given the importance of completing this project on schedule, an on-time completion incentive is planned. See attached for additional information.
